I'd class this as a session beer quite similar to caffrey's in style and not in the normal McEwans Scottish mould.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07221659137454201821noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6114284681482585458.post-7371831132934574412014-02-10T23:29:20.745+00:002014-02-10T23:29:20.745+00:00Although I don’t think you will be convinced by th...Although I don’t think you will be convinced by this, I asked Wells & Youngs and they deny that the recipe has changed.Rob Sterowskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07870233673933087794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6114284681482585458.post-27289203784211642562014-02-08T09:35:58.019+00:002014-02-08T09:35:58.019+00:00No, fans of McEwans Export cannot ' breathe a ...No, fans of McEwans Export cannot ' breathe a sigh of relief'. Wells and Young have changed the recipe and ruined it. As an Export drinker for 35 years this is very bad news. I can think of about a dozen far tastier 'premium bottles' ales I'd rather have in about ten seconds.

Bringing 70/- and 80/- back up to scratch and launching as a cask (even as just a seasonal) surely isn't beyond the wit of Wells & Youngs. I'm mystified as to why they haven't done this rather than launch something as bland as Red.

On an ex-S&N note, does anyone know what has happened to all the other ex-Newcastle and Federation ales, and if Heineken still own the rights? I'm thinking of Newcastle IPA (last seen on keg in the mid-90s), Amber Ale, Fed Special etc?Paulnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6114284681482585458.post-59572785073898991272013-04-19T19:55:45.757+01:002013-04-19T19:55:45.757+01:00McEwan’s Export has been re-launched in bottles in...McEwan’s Export has been re-launched in bottles in the “premium bottled ale” aisle, though who exactly is paying the premium over the canned version (it is around 30% more expensive in the bottle) I couldn’t say.

Not me, I can tell you. Not twice, anyway.

Coincidentally, I've just been to a launch of a sub-4% session bitter. I had five pints and lifted a bottle to take home. I felt slightly sheepish when I opened the goody bag they'd handed me on the way out and found a bottle of the beer in there, but what the hell - now I've got two bottles.
