The year in beer

Just some photos today of random beers and places this year. Otherwise known as some of the random pictures I took on my phone and never used.

There’s a prize (a can of Sweetheart Stout) if anyone can name all the beers and all the places.

Megabrewer Suckiness Index

This is an experiment to see how much the global brewers suck relative to each other. This index shows the progress each global brewer has made since June 29, 2010, starting at 100. Brewers who do things to support beer culture, such as making better beer or introducing niche products, will see their suckiness index sink. Those who produce lame adverts, sponsor appalling TV shows, close breweries or discontinue historic legacy beers will be rewarded by an increased suckiness index.

After six months or a year perhaps we will see which megabrewer sucks the most.

First update (2010-07-07): Munich brewery collaboration: Not that I thing the corporate HQ had anything to do with it, but being scrupulously fair, we have to say Heineken and AB InBev now suck a little bit less.

2010-08-23 ABInBev suck more for this: "Budweiser activated the FIFA World Cup asset for the seventh time, with the most global, experiential and digital programme to date, thanks to the increased scale, footprint and pooled creativity of the new Anheuser-Busch InBev combination."

2010-09-02 Carlsberg suck more for closing the Cardinal brewery in Switzerland.

2010-09-02 Diageo suck for arguing that duty should rise on beer but not on spirits.

2011-07-18 Molson Coors and Carlsberg both suck for launching crappy “beer for women”.

2011-09-14 Molson Coors suck for the disingenuous labelling of UK market Blue Moon.

2011-11-15 A-B InBev suck for brewing Beck’s in St Louis.

2011-11-15 A-B InBev also suck for Bud Light Platinum.
