The half-litre Willybecher is another classic German beer glass. Like the British nonic or dimple, it's utilitarian and hard-wearing. I have the impression it's regarded as a little old-fashioned these days. I really like it. But elegant? No.
I never knew that's what they were called. I got a 400ml one from Bergmann Brauerei in Dortmund a couple of weeks ago. I like it. The 4cl one looks elegant enough! :)
These may work in Germany but IMV are terrible when used in the UK. A few years ago we (for some reason) had them as official glasses at the Stockport Beer Festival and they proved highly unpopular.

ReplyDeleteJust curious, but why do you reckon are they terrible in the UK, or what made them unpopular at the Stockport Festival.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want to drink mild out of them either, but I cannot explain why not. Something subconscious.
